Doina Rotaru

Doina Rotaru was born in Bucharest (Romania) in 1951, and attended the Bucharest University of Music (1970-1975) studying composition with Tiberiu Olah. She is now professor of composition at this University

She has been invited to be a Lecturer at Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music (1990,1992,1994) and in the Gaudeamus International Composers' Workshop in Amsterdam (1990,1992). In 1991 she was awarded a grant to study composition in Amsterdam.

Her music has been performed in many concerts and festivals in Romania, as well as in Amsterdam, Berlin, Berna, Bremen, Brighton, Caen, Darmstadt, Edinburgh, Graz, The Hague, Hiroshima, Hong Kong, Huddersfield, Laussane, London, Munich, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Tokyo, Vienna, Zurich, Warsaw.

She was awarded prizes by the Romanian Academy, Romanian Composers' Association (1981, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2001), and in 1994 she won the first prize at the Gedok-Mannheim Competition.

Some of Doina Rotaru's works have been commissioned by Radio France, Radio Graz, Suntory Hall Tokyo, French Ministry of Culture, Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, ensembles and soloists from France, Germany, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Switzerland.
